The little green yard
I’ve known it forever
I’ve played in it as a child
I’ve made memories with friends on the block
I enjoyed the little green yard
But then I grew up
I found no use in the yard
I never stepped foot
To me it was just grass
But today I look
And through all the green,
Through all the plain grass,
A burst of yellow
The Yellow Woodsorrel
I haven’t paid attention
To me it was all green
Memories came flooding
Of what used to be
My little green yard

I really like how simple and beautiful this writing is. You highlight how a lot of people just go about their day and tend to not notice the small things. The repetitive use of “the little green yard” reminded me throughout the piece of what you thought of it for so long. I think it’s so awesome that this assignment helped you notice the yellow flowers in your yard.

I could really relate to the line about growing up. It goes to show to appreciate the little things. It’s cool that you got to be reminded by good memories, and hopefully you can create more.

You never really realize how many memories you have just experienced in your yard or area around your house. I think just taking that second to realize what’s around you and the things you’ve experienced are really nice. You gotta take that second to see what’s going on around you and enjoy it before it all goes by so fast. The flowers have a really cool name too.

I loved the poem, and I think the little ending information was a nice touch! I enjoyed how you talked about that with time your image of the backyard changed and that when you paid attention to detail it seemed to be more than just green.
