I live in Kingston, Pennsylvania. Its more of a suburban area with lots of trees and plants that grow around the city. There are a bunch of parks all around that I take my siblings to and also used to go to as a kid.

My sister is ten and loves to ride her bike around the park. I decided one day to take her to my favorite one that I used to go to, Kirby park. It has a pond that always has fish in it and ducks around.

I know ducks are ducks but I don’t feel like many people take the time to differentiate them. There are two types that surround the ponds and lakes of my area. Buffleheads and Hooded Mergansers are diving ducks that live in wetland areas. They thrive on the fish that live in them.

The reason I decided to focus on the ducks instead of the various flowers and trees that surround them was because they were what I was excited for when going with my family. We used to take corn or grapes to feed them and make an activity out of it. It is sort of a tradition in my family that was done with my siblings and cousins.

Its not much but I feel that because we live in such an advanced world, it’s nice to know that kids aren’t only interested in their phones or IPads. My siblings look forward to the time of the year that we can go to the park and feed them. It’s a nice memory that will be relived with the families we create.
