I am often the textbook definition of an introvert, so this assignment was pretty daunting to me. When I began talking to Fisher, I immediately related to his initial quiet and shy character. A bit to my surprise he shared seemingly personal details of his life, and through this my introverted side slowly started to fade away. For one of the first times since I have been at college, I felt comfortable sharing more vulnerable details of my own life. His friendly and relaxed nature calmed my nerves about having to interact with people I didn’t know. The pockets of silence in our conversations weren’t awkward or uncomfortable. Instead they provided me with a small push to think of questions and ways in which I could get to know him better. While we talked, I took notice to similarities we share in regards to our outward lives, like tastes in music and our families. These conversations contributed to the similarities I also identified with in his demeanor. He didn’t talk much, but as he introduced us to more sides of his personality the dynamic in our group felt more welcoming. Each interaction we had felt like a natural friendship that gently challenged my introverted personality, and regardless of the anxiety I had at the beginning of the assignment I’m happy to have gotten the opportunity to know Fisher.
