In the world we live in, I’m most sure that no one knew about what was headed towards us. The coronavirus pandemic was never supposed to get this far. I believe that life is never going to be the same anymore. I thought that the virus was going to end, but it seems like it is starting to get worse and worse.
The coronavirus will change the way we live going forward as we always have to take precautions now. As in, most people are going to be more alert on where they travel, and the way they come in contact with people. As it says. “No longer are most people congregating in bars or parks, dining out, or going into the office for work.” (“10 ways, 2020”). The pandemic has a lot of us losing money. Most people can’t work, and from that people get the stimulus check, but everyone can’t rely on that forever. Most people got it, but some didn’t qualify for it. From that, people are struggling, and want to get back to work.
I even witnessed everyone going crazy in my own eyes. Recently at the capital, Harrisburg, there were many people protesting. As I witnessed it, I was thinking things are only going to get worse because many people didn’t have a mask, gloves, and were close together. That is when I knew we were going to be quarantined longer, and now the stay at home order is until May 8th now. “Mr. Trump has been unrolling at his daily press briefings — that the lockdowns will end soon, that a protective pill is almost at hand.” (“ The Coronavirus in America: The Year Ahead, 2020”). Everyone wants the world to open back up, but what happens if it doesn’t go as planned, and it gets worse?
I believe that now from the virus, us humans now know how to be more aware. Now, everyone is trying to stay cleaner, using hand sanitizer often, washing hands even when they come in the house just from taking a walk. Most people didn’t take it seriously when they started to hear about it, until they knew someone that died from it, or tested positive for coronavirus. “We know now that touching things, being with other people and breathing the air in an enclosed space can be risky.” (“Coronavirus Will Change the World Permanently. Here’s How, 2020”). People have to watch how to touch their faces, shaking hands, touching door handles, etc. People get afraid, and constantly wash their hands.
From now on, people are struggling with money. As of now, the economy isn’t doing so great right now. “the world should be prepared for the worst economic fallout since the Great Depression.” (“How life has changed since coronavirus struck”, 2020). Which is not good, because now people are applying for unemployment, and the process of that is long and slow. As businesses are closed down longer than expected, the company is losing money, and also the employers. Now, schools are closed, no prom or graduation. I think it is important for kids to experience these moments, because you only get to do that once. Everyone needs to stay in the house if they have a stay at home order, because everyone wants to move forward. Even if staying safe is in matter. – Sanae Marshall

Yeah, I used to hear projections for how long the pandemic will last but they don’t seem to be making them anymore and it’s very concerning.
I don’t know what’s right but I am skeptical that politicians are making the most logistical choices, and instead making choices that will basically “cover their asses”.
If it is reasonable to say that the virus will never get better then I think we should be opening up and learning how to do so safely is the best bet. – Some countries have been doing this so I guess we’ll see if it works.
I like what you wrote, and the world’s current position is very sad.

The great depression starting in October of 1929 began with flash stock market crash due to massively overinflated share prices. This market crash was not necessarily synonymous with the depression , but more a symptom of a heavily flawed financial system. Bank reserves were not backed or insured, so when the crash wiped out their stock gains, they rushed the banks, and banks collapsed. No banks means no loans, no loans means no growth, no growth means no spending. No spending means prolonged economic recession or “depression.” There are now economic fail safes in place to ensure something like this does not happen. Banks are now insured by the federal reserve, and the SEC regulates stock market transaction to reduce fraud.
The “almost depression” in 2008 was caused by a massive housing bubble burst as a result of fraudulent sub prime lending. Millions of people were sold homes and predatory mortgages. When they all defaulted on those loans, the bubble collapsed and rippled through the economy. Due to regulations, sub prime lending is no longer possible.
What I am saying is that there is nothing inherently wrong with the economy right now. The current recession is entirely man made and intentional. The demand for goods is still there, and people will consumer again once this passes. The question is, how soon will this pass, and how quickly will consumers go out and actually buy stuff. This question is concerning. With that being said, there are currently no existing factors that will send us into any kind of prolonged recession or “depression.”
Journalists and bloggers use words like “depression” in their articles because they worry people and generate clicks.

I know exactly what you mean when you say ” The coronavirus pandemic was never supposed to get this far.” I vividly remember back in December/January everyone making jokes about it and just simply small talk. It is crazy to think how much it has changed our lives so quickly. Very true when you bring up how many people got the stimulus check and still many did not. And even for most people who got it, of course it is not nearly enough to cover what is being lost. The protests are insanity I cannot imagine witnessing them first hand. I hope you’re able to stay safe through all of this living at a place like the capital! People are crazy. I thought your writing had great flow to it. It did not feel too choppy and your sources gracefully weaved in and out of your own words. They had good, well thought out placement for sure. Also, I enjoyed your photo! It’s a graphic I had never seen before and just thought it to be interesting. Great Piece!
