The bird is most likely an American Goldfinch. Sadly they are cagey and frightened easily so pictures are hard to get. They are a small migratory bird that comes up for spring and summer. The bird feeder at our house is a popular one due to my Mom’s Boyfriend being a fan of the birds and filling them constantly. The finches don’t stay year-round where we are(North East Pennsylvania). There are other birds namely a family of cardinals that hang around for the year and use the feeder constantly.

They’re not the only ones who use the feeder. Most notably the one we call “Fat Freddy”. He is a squirrel and thanks to the aforementioned bird feeder a chunky squirrel relatively speaking.

It is a constant battle with the squirrels over the bird feeder. At this point, it has been easier to just kinda deal with it; even if they do make a giant mess of the place and waste tons of seeds and therefore money. We tried the greased pole trick and the nets but given a few days and the promise of easy food everything failed short of just killing them which of course isn’t an option.

In the end however, the issue of the squirrels are outweighed by the beauty of the many birds the feeders bring.
