I’m good. Before leaving the dorm, I was behind and worried about my grades. But I’ve been given a chance to catch up. I have more free time, fewer responsibilities, and more productivity. Similar to most others, I don’t get anything out of the online lectures and taking exams and quizzes are nightmares.
I’m in a good position. I’m provided everything from my parents, and they too are fine because they can work from home. I don’t think others are saying the same thing. A lot of people are out of work and school, stuck inside with family they don’t want to spend time with. But I get along with my family. I’m learning how to play the trumpet so they aren’t reciprocating the same feelings.
I do have anxiety but never before this week have seriously looked at society, our future, and safety, and felt anxious about it. I’m worried that the functions that hold our complex society together (production, supply, and trade) will fall apart. I hope we’ll be able to hold it together, 200,000 Americans won’t die, and we’ll come out the other side, virus-free and ready to make a lot of the changes that are much needed in society.
I was set to study abroad in Japan this summer, but it was canceled, who could have guessed that would happen? So my summer plans are in limbo. I have applied for a few internships – not likely to happen. I am going to volunteer when school ends. Hopefully, with the COVID effort, but this too may not be possible. – I may get an email back saying: Yeah, you can volunteer by isolating in your house.
I am going to find something no matter what, even if that means taking a load of online courses.
I’m just really hoping that we will get through this virus, and if we do, there will be some positives.
I wanted to study abroad in Japan originally, but I was not able to because of my major. I know to see the people who want to study abroad and can no longer do so because of the events that are taking place currently. I’m sure we will all get through this virus! We will all emerge stronger than before and learn a lot of valuable lessons from all of this.

Wow, you are really an ambitious person and I respect your efforts to find something challenging for you to do during the summer versus just relaxing and taking some time off.
I think it is interesting how you look at the aftermath and changes the Corona Virus will cause instead of what is currently happening now. It shows how you look at the bigger picture of situations versus just staring at what is right in front of you.
Hopefully, you do get to do Study Abroad in Japan sometime later and take care ~ Nelson N

I appreciate your ability to be positive at a time like this. Especially when most blog posts (mine included) have not been so. I enjoyed your piece a lot, especially the humorous aspects of it that slipped in every now and then. Your piece was extremely light-hearted yet heavy all at once, but you found a really good balance between the two. Especially when talking about how you’re scared that our world will quite literally fall apart, but then again you being unsure if your family feels the same about you while you learn your way around the trumpet. Good luck with finding internships!
Best,
Vinnie

I relate to this post sooo much. I had so much planned for the next few months and with everything happening it makes me feel stuck. Not knowing when it’ll be over, to what extent this pandemic will take, and just how people will act after all this.
