Dear Mr. Langin,
It has been 7 years since I’ve been in your classroom, and yet when posed the question as to which past teacher of mine I would write a letter to- you are still the first person who pops into my mind.
My time in your class taught me a multitude of life lessons. You encouraged my wide variety of music tastes and I find that many of the songs you played for us still get caught in my head to this day, and I smile when they make me think of you. You encouraged me as a writer. Never before had I been singled out like you did for me during the first week of class. I wrote an epic story about the very hungry caterpillar and you picked me to read it in front of everyone. That will be something I’ll never forget.
You made me excited to be in school, with your class as my absolute favorite, obviously. You made it fun! Pretending to be different characters, having us do scavenger hunts, dress up for the plays we read, etc. I could go on and on about all the games, debates, and projects we all learned so much from you.
Above all though, I value what you taught me about friends, community, and family. I learned to love all of the students in that class and we all formed a family together with your guidance. You took us out on fieldtrips to Shake Shack and to see Shakespeare plays outside of school hours. You taught us all about art and the importance of being able to draw connections between writings, art pieces, and music. You showed us how to be ourselves and allow others in to see each and every one of our unique personalities. When you shared that you had written a book, that was another lesson that taught me to never give up on my dreams.
You will forever be an enormous role model for me, and I hope you know that. You are changing the lives of your students every day and encouraging them to be smart, different, and empathetic. A million times thank you for the part you played in shaping me into the person I am today.
