In the middle of my second semester rut I’ve been doubting myself a lot about what I’m passionate about and what gets me excited, with my GPA plummeting and me losing interest in Biology, I’ve been thinking a lot about your class. How in the world did you make me care about Constitutional Law, and why do I miss it? I tried to read a single article about a case going to the Supreme Court but I found myself incredibly bored and decided to stop. So how was it that you got me to read 100 page court cases every night? I think it’s because you gave me my first taste of what it’s like to do research, and how exciting the chase for a single quote or a single piece of evidence could be. I never got to do that in any of my science classes, they give us the information, we memorize it, and we regurgitate it back to them. And yes, you did force me to memorize the entire Constitution and Bill of Rights, but you also made me use it to look at a bigger picture.
I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been as passionate as I was with my stack of research next to me screaming at a classmate during a mock trial about the Fourth Amendment, defending the TSA in a case I knew I had already lost. Still, this is not the end of my relationship with STEM, and I really don’t think I would like being a medical lawyer, I’m just writing to let you know how much I appreciate your class. It’s not only just in High School, but in college I’ve noticed that there really isn’t a lot of creativity going on in my classrooms (it doesn’t help that half my teachers are bought off by Pearson), but I don’t need to be inspired by them, because you helped me realize that if I want to feel that passionate again, I need to go into research, and I can’t thank you enough for that.
Best,
