The nearest ocean is two hours away, yet I am about to eat raw fish. I am in a city, yet I can dip the fish in fermented soy bean sauce. Where is the nearest soy farm? I am not really sure but probably a bit far. Rice farmed hundreds of miles away and bamboo chopsticks. The whole meal is wrapped in plastic synthesized from oil drilled in some far corner of the world.

What is truly amazing about the modern market economy, is that for ten bucks I a short walk, I can consume all of these goods. No need to travel, and no need to grow, harvest or extract anything myself.
