Gentrification is formally defined as the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle-class taste. There are many different positives and negatives to gentrification overall and how it affects your local community.
Positives are a boost to the local economy with wealthier people bringing higher incomes which means more businesses being built which also means more jobs for everyone. Another positive is lower crime rate and more revenue for the community such as infrastructures, such as roads, parks, and schools.
Negatives of gentrification are increased property taxes in poor urban neighborhoods which force lower-income people to be kicked out.
