The clock above my mantel reads 12:00. It is midnight but that doesn’t matter to me in the slightest, it’s not like I have to be at the office in the morning anyway. The house is clean, the wife is in bed, and the Tesla should be bringing the kids back from their night out at any moment. My leather armchair holds me up and the rest of the room holds me down. It’s my favorite room in the world. I get up momentarily to grab another log for the fire. Hundreds of handpicked books, a seemingly unreadable amount for one man, accompany me in the room. The permanence of the room is enthralling. Nowadays, the digital world has almost completely taken over, from my perspective this room is the last battleground that digital products will never be able to conquer. All of these books, all of their stories, lessons, wisdom, will all sit here in this room, ready for me to pick up and explore when the time is right. I sit back down and for a moment watch the flames engulf the new log. I think to myself and know that I’ve accomplished a large part of my dream, I am overwhelmed with a sense that every single moment was worth it, just to sit here in this moment.
I came across an idea recently that really struck a chord somewhere within myself. I don’t remember the exact quote, but it’s something along the lines of “Everybody is worried to go to the past because they know changing one small thing could have a massive impact on the future, but most people don’t believe that one small action today will vastly alter their future.
Time inevitably keeps ticking. We can’t make time, we can only take time. We can’t add more hours to the day, but we can make the hours we have worth more. The universe is in constant chaos but we have a remarkable ability to shape and mold that chaos. There’s no telling if tomorrow is the day you get run over and your story ends, or if a nuclear holocaust errupts and a whole lot more stories end, but we obviously cant just live in fear of those things. No, we must do whatever today that will give us a better tomorrow, even if tomorrow never comes.
If you want to have a better life, it is essential that you harness your ability to manifest and shape your story. Know what you want and do something today that will get you closer to that. Set goals for yourself, and don’t let yourself down. We don’t have the ability to completely change our destinies, but doing something gives us a lot more control than doing nothing.
