When I asked people about “health” as a topic, it was actually quite interesting. They mainly reported on their own physical health, when in reality, there are many aspects to a person’s health. Luckily, I knew the respondents so I had no issue with asking them a vague question. I started off by asking the question, “What do you think of when you hear the word, ”health “? My first respondent kept it simple. His response was, “going to the gym”. I thought to myself, wow, I must be super unhealthy considering that I have only been to the gym a handful of times. I then proceeded to ask one of my close friends the same question. She responded with “healthcare and the politics of health”. Her response did not surprise me considering she is very interested in politics. Another response that stuck out to me when I asked the question was “food”. I had never really thought about the correlation between health and food (even though it is somewhat obvious). After chatting with all of the respondents, I was highly surprised about one thing; the only aspect of health that was talked about was mainly physical health. Considering the fact that I am a psychology major, I consider mental health to be the most important aspect of health. Think about it: can you keep yourself in good physical health if your mind is not in good shape? When people’s mental health deteriorates, it can lead to poor physical health. In my opinion, all aspects of health are connected and I truly believe that if one part of us is not “healthy”, then it is very hard for any other aspect to be.
